Timing marks
Before I pull it apart. Engine was weak at 8 BTDC retarded to 5 BTDC and was still bad, advanced to 12 and got better, advanced to 18 and got better again.
When crank pulley is lined up at TDC the cam pulley is on the line but the piston has travelled past TDC about 3mm down the bore. If I rock the piston at TDC the cam pulley is1 tooth
before the mark and the crank pulley is lined up at approx 18 BTDC. I assume like every other engine that if your piston is at TDC on the compression stroke that your
crank and cam should line up with the marks and then you retard or advance your ignition timing to suit. If your marks line up and your piston is already
travelling down the bore then something is amiss. Bit of vibration but idles and revs smooth with no hesitations or knocks, it's just a lack of power at the recommended timing
and it advances fine when revved. I have no idea of the history of this vehicle or the mechanical competence of previous owners.

Thankyou DibbyDibby DJ you have already been a great help, my bad.
It's a 1996 MK Triton single overhead cam, 16 valve, fuel injected 2.4 litre 4g64, 5 speed manual in a red 2wd 4 door cab chassis utility with 300k on the clock probably had 2 or 3 belts.
