Exclamation cam timing

I just did a head gasket and this is my first sohc. How do you get the cam timing right when putting the timing chain back on. Its an 89 2.6L. There is a mark on the cam gear, is there one on the crank gear too? Id rather not pull the whole front of the motor apart if i dont have to. Any advice would be appreciated asap. Im driving a 65 pontiac until this is fixed so the sooner the better haha

you need to first figure out where the marks are on the head/block. Ussually there are marks as to where the cam gears should be pointing at (or they may just be pointing at each other) and then the mark on the crank pulley should line up with a mark on the block (most of the time its on the timing cover).

But i would suggest getting a manual for that car and determine exactly how they should be lined up
