Won't Fire
yes need some help trying to solve an issue w/ my buddies 91 eclipse 2.0 auto that won't fire. It cranks but won't start even with starter spray so I think this tells me there is no spark, havn't gotten around to pulling of a fuel line to see if there is fuel supplied to the engine. But I did notice that there is some sort of regulator right off of the possitive side of the battery cable that has melted a little bit, there are 3 wires coming out of this regulator and the middle wire is a red wire and when you messure voltage out of the middle(red) and the right you get about 12 volts, but when you messure the middle(red) and the left you get about negetave 2 volts and the left side of this regulator is the burnt side. Does anyone know what this divice is and also what is a good place to start to see if I have a fuel supply to the motor.
Thanks, Mark...

RE: Won't Fire
You have to be a little more coherent in the troubleshooting. As you mentioned there's no spark, so why would you care about fuel now? Try to find spark first, check timing belt/marks, compression. I don't know nothing about regulators on the positive terminal of the battery, unless you're talking about spacecraft of some sort... hehe.It must be either fusible link or fuse holder. What you're measuring isn't right, it couldn't be negative against ground reference. Your multimeter is lying to you, ignore this reading, use small 12V bulb (< 0.5W) insteadto check for 12V supply (you can connect multimeter in parallel with the bulb if you want to).It could be simply some defective components within ignition system, sorry I am not very familiar with this car. You will need some electrical diagrams. I can try to find schematics for you.

RE: Won't Fire
I should probobly explain a little more, what my friend told me is that the padding on the hood where the battery touchescame off and the terminals touch and started a small fire. Supposally he had someone look at it and told him it was this device that issomewhat burntis the problem and the only place that you could get one was from OE and was over 400 dollars. I was just wanting to find out for sure what this device is so we could determine if it is an issue w/ fuel or spark.
