What about putting like a duct in the huge hole in the front of the eclipse. Well on the 2g anyway. Putting in a duct that runs straight from a scoop in the big hole to the intake.

As long as that duct runs into a filter, you're fine. There's too much dust/debris flying while driving around for a DD + no filter.

There's a bunch of ways to lower intake temps. Lower them before the turbo, after the turbo, and before the TB, even in the chamber itself.
Again, keep the air before the turbo at outside ambient temps and it won't be as hot as the ones sucking up engine bay temps. Just putting up a partition on my filter dropped my intake temps 20 degrees, my buddy added a duct to that and lowered it roughly another 10 degrees (10 while driving and 5 at idle). That's a minimum of 25 degrees, on top of our FMICs. Hell, I'm still tuning FOR knock.
I don't think cooling the intake temps before the turbo is a waste of time, if it was, folks wouldn't have a manifold made so that the compressor faced the front of the car with a big ol hole in the bumper.
It's all about lowering knock and anything to help that shouldn't be considered a waste of time or money (unless it's rediculously priced high that is, lol).

EmberSpyder, read the second post on page one.

I agree with your "stock" statement 50ul }{4ck3r
