Default 1998 pajero io rough idle need help plz

Hey, I have recently bought a 1998 pajero io H76 GDI with the 4g93. When I cold start the car most of the time if will have regular high idle and make it’s way down to regular idle. But as soon as I put it in gear it will drop to 200-500 rpm’s. From then on even if I put it in park or in drive it will idle very low and the engine vibrates very hard. Just cleaned the throttle body and it helped a bit. Any ideas of things I should do or change? I ordered new air filter, spark plugs, and a throttle body sensor and am going to see about clean the maf sensor.

Cruxx.....Hello. I would definatly remove the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve, and thoroughly clean it with some old gas (new gas is too valuable to use these days). On my 94 Monty, I can actually remove the 2 screws that hold it w/o removing any of the air box or duct work. It is up under the duct-work, kinda under the throttle body. Let me see if I can find a pic for you:
Dont remove the 3 screws that open up the IAC, but just the 2 screws (#10 socket), one on each side. Then you can clean it up, and there is a way to test it to make sure it is good. I think I posted a "How To" thread on how to test this do-hicky. Basically, the computer sends various amounts of current to the IAC, and then an electro-magnet moves which causes the tip to go in/out, thus allowing a certain amount of air to go past it and past the throttle body flapper valve. If it does not open up enough, you will get super low idle, and the engine usually will cut off, unless you keep a toe on the gas pedal.

Here is a dirty one off my Montero:

Be sure you dont lose that ORing, and you may want to smear a bit of grease on it after cleaning that chamber.

After cleaning: I also spray a tad of spray lube around the yellow cylinder.

You can test it by putting your OHM meter leads on specific prongs, as outlined in the shop manual. This will tell you if she is toast or not:

Factree left, and Chinna-made on right. Cost of new Factree/quality one is about $125 vs the Shinna one at about $25 (at least that was the price from Rock A. last year). Might be "unobtanium" now.

Here's what she looks like on the inside. I tried cleaning mine, but I dont believe it helped:

If I had my way, I would rig up a "choke cable" and have a manual choke-type adjustment here, so I could regulate this by hand.....and not have to keep replacing these gadgets.

Good luck.
