Default 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - Flashing red light and beeping noise - HELP

Hi,

I locked my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander yesterday and a flashing red light came on with a beeping noise. This has never happened before and here is nothing about it in the manual. The beeping stops after a while but the flashing light is constant. The flashing light is next to the passenger airbag light next to the eco mode button.
Has anyone come across this issue before or may know what it is?

Did you ever find out what this was?
I have just had the same thing happen with my 2014 outlander and have no clue what it is or why...

Default 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander flashing red light and beeping

this is from Chat GPT

The flashing red light and beeping noise you're describing in your 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander are likely related to the vehicle's security or anti-theft system. Here's a breakdown:
  1. Flashing Red Light:
    • This is typically the security indicator light. It flashes to show that the vehicle's anti-theft system is armed. If the vehicle is locked and the light continues to flash (without beeping), it is normal and indicates that the system is active and working as intended.
  2. Beeping Noise:
    • The beeping noise could be a warning that something was left open (e.g., a door, hood, or trunk) when you locked the car, or it may indicate that a key fob is still inside the vehicle. Once the issue is resolved, the beeping usually stops.
  3. Unusual Behavior:
    • If the flashing light and beeping are happening under unusual circumstances, it could be due to:
      • A key fob issue: For example, a low battery in the fob or interference with its signal.
      • A door or hatch sensor malfunction, where the system thinks something is open even if it isn't.
      • A glitch in the anti-theft or locking system.
What to Do:
  1. Double-check all doors, the hood, and the trunk to ensure they are fully closed.
  2. Check the key fob battery and replace it if it's weak or dead.
  3. If the problem persists, try resetting the system:
    • Lock and unlock the car a few times using the key fob.
    • Start the car to see if the light and beeping stop.
  4. If none of these work, it might be a sensor or electrical issue, and you'll need to take the car to a Mitsubishi dealer or qualified mechanic for a diagnostic check.
