I have just got a galant 2001 and I have never had a car this new . so I have alot of question . some will be silly to some of you but you need to remember how much the cars has changed since 1986.first I have a door key with a R on it I was told it had a computer chip in it . and I cant get a key made unless I go to a dealer .is this true.. I got a lot of question to ask please bear with me thanks

Welcome to the forums but mind you the dates you posted 24 and the 26 people dont sit at the comp all day, it was christmas.

The chip in the key will allow the car to start andif you get a key made it without the chip or do not get it programed by the dealer it wont start the car but will work on the doors/locks.
