Ricer or not?
What’s up? So one of my buddies and I had a small argument of what is considered a “Ricer”. He seems to think that it’s mostly imports, including his 300ZX as well as my Evo, depending on exhaust type.
What do you guys think?
What do you consider a ricer?

Rice is all about the attitude.
There are 1000whp Supras that have a 5 inch exhaust, that doesn't count.
Bodykits and excessive exterior modification are ricey.
Things like factory aero kits are not, and tasteful add ons such as a little lip here and there are okay.
Most modification to the headlights or tail lights are ricey, they include alteeeeeezas.
Buying your performance parts from eBay is ricey.

I agree the Evo is pretty ricey. No offence but I would have said that when I owned one as well. Exhaust really cant be considered rice unless you just put on a fart can and nothing. I mean my Supra has 4 inch exhaust and it is dead quiet unless I am above 5k. I mean quiet as in my GFs 01 GT spyder eclipse makes more noise at cruising speeds with stock exhaust. Not to mention how can that be considered rice when you doing a 30HP mod like that. same with the Evo really.
If you heard my Evo before i sold it you would call it rice all the way. Evos sound like complete **** with heavy mods. Worse and louder than a honda IMO lol.
The 300zx is far from rice IMO. it is a very bland plain car. The Supra could be considered rice for the meer fact that every ricerboy loves them (like the Evo and skyline)

To me ricer is trying to make your ride look what its not with the fewest ammount of care and money on it... ie... trying to make a honda look WAY faster than it is... when its not, not caring about details and paying 200 for a paintjob... Ricer... is like in the music world what you would call a poseur... but thats mo
Rice to me is when a car is setup to emulate a fast car and when the car is all about form over function. Like Mike said, his Supra has a 4" exhaust....but it's functional. It's there to support other mods, not make it seem like it's faster than it really is.
Rice used to be about the motor because 4 cylinders were mainly an Asian product and were hated by American car enthusiasts because they made better 4 cylinders. So back in the day Asian = rice and rice = less than 8 cylinders. Now rice = all show and no go. But there are still folks who relate anything smaller than a V8 to rice.

Yeah I agree with ya, rice, IMO is a series of interior and exterior upgrades that doesn’t serve a purpose in performance.
I can see why the Evo could be considered rice but everything on that car is functional, down to the large rear wind that serves a purpose in aerodynamics to the ventilated hood that allows heat to exit the engine bay. To me that’s not rice, that performance.

That stuff serves its purpose yes. However the Evo is just one of those cars that will always scream ricer. Esspecailly with the huge price drop and all the younger (ricier) kids picking them up.
I mean when I was in FL shortly after buying mine. I went to a big meet. hundreds of cars were there about 15 Evos. I was talking to one kid he was 18. He has a FMIC , stock exhaust and a Megan tubular manifold with an SAFC and NO wideband. So I ask him why the FMIC and manifold but no exhaust? He goes oh they look better. Im like ok well they arent doing you any good the way your car is setup. Then I noticed the SAFC and I go oh who tuned it, he say I did. Im like oh yea what AFR's are you set too? He goes huh? I say do you have a wideband? he goes oh no I just can tell when its too lean by how it feels.
So I end by saying well good luck, hope your motor lasts

Yeah you are right, it's the younger generation that puts the car in the "ricer" category. I've always been about functionality over bling, but I'll keep my car real and about performance.
I even saw an Evo a few days ago with a wing big enough to make a blue whale jealous. I knew he was just trying to get a "cool" look, but didn't think he was so successful.
