and yes, the no muffler and no cat is illegal, ESPECIALLY here in CA

the car just got smogged 3 months ago, and everytime i see a cop, i smack the clutch pedal and bring the RPM's down to idle as to not distract any unwanted attention

matter of fact, on the way to work today, a CHP was behind my ***, when i noticed i was like "OH CRAP!!!" so i put that clutch in and shifted all the way to 6th and kept her outta boost
