1st gear
does anyone else have some "trouble" with their first gear? when i put it into first there is kind of a clunk when it falls into place. its not grindling but it sound like the gears are getting stuck and then going into place with some force. does anyone have any advice or assurance that all GT3ks do this?
My eclipse had that problem when the clutch was going and after i had run it really hard on the verge of 'beating on the car' the car would not go into 1st gear. I had to come to a complete stop and push the clutch in twice to get it to go in. Either you need your clutch adjusted or you clutch could be on the way out. How many miles are on the car? Do you know of any clutch change in the cars history? Trust me almost all the 3KGT trannys clunk as well as DSM trannys and evo trannys. Very common.

I have the same problem as both of you. Mine has a new clutch though, so your saying that i should go have my clutch adjusted? I'll try to look into to it a little more, thanks.
It's because of our flywheel in both platforms. The syncros on first do not spin that fast because the ration in both cars is rather low. Because of that slower syncro the obscenely heavy flywheels spin faster than the syncros can compensate for when you shift real quick into first.
That is not to say that your syncros are in the best condition - if they are factory then they are probably working even less efficient.
Hooray for crapy syncros on our cars...
