Default 3000gt turbo conversion

i've been thinking of putting a turbo into my 1993 3000gt. what else would i need to get besides the turbo itself, an intercooler, and the piping. i've also heard that my automativ transmission won't be able to handle all that extra power. i would set it to high boost, just enough for that extra acceleraton power, you know. this would be my first time doing this so if anyone has any info please help me out

Wow. Ummm...

You *might* be able to handle the power if you change out your torque convertor. Do some ECU work, spend some time on the dyno getting it tuned correctly so you don't blow it all up to hell. You'll need the exhaust header, downpipe, wastegate, blow off valve, possibly a turbo timer, it's nice to have a wideband O2 sensor and an air/fuel ratio gauge that's worth a crap, and if it were me I'd change out to lower compression pistons, new piston rings, new headgasket, new head studs, new bearings, the list goes on.

In other words, unless you have the money to back this all up, then even if you do get it turbo'd you will blow it up shortly after and be without a 3kgt.

Better information can be found here http://www.3si.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=53and here http://www.3si.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=72

Not trying to take major issue with the above statement. But it can be done. It can be done on a budget. It can be reliable.

Yea I don't know much about goin TT with the ATX tranny but going TT isn't that bad. Infact, I am just finishing up mine right now. And f***withmeprelude you forgot a bunch of stuff that is very important. First of all there are two exhaust MANIFOLDS because the engine is a 6 cylinder V design and is Twin Turbo'd. Second of all the 9b's(stock turbos off of a VR4) are internally wastegated so he shouldn't be buying any wastegates for his turbos. Also a turbo timer is a waste of freaking money. If anything after you drive a turbo'd car hard just let it idle for about a minute before u shut it off. You don't need a dyno to tune your car. Infact, you can't just go to a dyno place and get your car tuned. You need to phsyically buy your own tuning equipment to be able to actually get your car tuned on a dyno. You are gonna need these parts: http://www.deftracing.com/tt.htm

To tune you will need a SAFC, and a Wideband O2 sensor. I would say the best place to get a wideband is from maximalperformance.com and get the AEM UEGO Wideband for 265 shipped.

Hope this helps. Peace,
-Mr.3000
