Default 3000GT won't start

Our 1994 3000GT has always run flawlessly, but my son drove it home and shut it off, and it will not start. It turns over, occasionally pops. The belts are fine, I don't know if it matters, but while turning it over, the RPM gauge does not move...stays at zero. This car ran great, had not shown any indication that something was ready to fail, so whatever it is, it failed very quickly. It does seem that (although the battery is getting weak now) the engine turns over really well, but once in a while it hits a dead spot, or just stops turning (only if you really keep turning, and turning) Please let us know what it may be, so we can try to fix it. I have a manual and it just says it could be a variety of things. Thanks! TJ

Default check for spark

Generally a no start situation is caused by no spark or no fuel situations. Pull no. 1 spark plug (front right side) ground the threaded end to the block or head and turn the car over. You should see spark arcing between the contacts of the plug. You might need help with this....if you are holding the plug and wire wear gloves and be cautious...its easy to get a zap. Also you may notice if the plug is wet when you pull it or if fuel is blown out of the plug hole while cranking the engine. By the way I recently purchased a non running 3000gt with the same issue....would crank but not start. It turned out to be the timing belt....be aware these are interference motors...when the timing belt breaks the pistons can collide with the valves causing major damage so don't try to pop statt this car if its a manual tranny.
