Engine Noises
My 96 3kGT SL makes a ticking noise while its just idling and low rpms (2-3k) 1st gear. I talked to a friend and he said it could be the lifters or the injectors...I was wondering if anyone knew how much it would be to fix either of those problems and if my friend is correct. Thank you
Most likely your lifters, you can get new ones. They sell new designed ones on these 3S vendor sites. I used to over fill my oil, and run a heavier weight to get a few more psi and it helped a little. But your best bet would be to just replace the lifters(Lash Adjusters).
If the tick goes away over 3k rpm then its a 90% change its the "lifters" the 99 style has larger holes and this reduces the frequency of this problem. But as I found on my 92 you might go thru the work and still tick. (but I tick less).
Some people have found that an engine flush and an additive like rislone or Auto tranny fluid helps reduce the problem.

Alan gave me the same advise....I bought a $3.50 bottle of "Valve Medic" from Advance Auto, added to my crankcase, and within five miles it ungunked my noisy lifer. The engine now has no tick what-so-ever.
A very cheap fix indeed, and the front cam is no longer taking a pounding. I plan to change oil this weekend though, as now the stuff has done it's job, and I am wondering about the solvent's long term effect effect on seals, etc.
