I know nothing about cars....I just bought a 97 3000gt base model....(160hp). I REALLY want to make this faster. I dont want to make it look like a race car or take out the back seat or anything....But things I can do to sup up the engine and lose some body fat on the car without changing the outside. If anyone can offer me some advise I would REALLLLLLLY appreciate it!!! Thank you to all who share their insight.

Hmmm...... I hate to say this... but it was said to me many times when I knew nothing about cars so here goes....
There's higher performing variants of your car available. An SL is 60 hp up on your car, and probably only a little more expensive. Just pulling 60 hp out of your engine would require thousands of dollars. And after you've thrown money at the first 20 hp, the last 40 will be really tuff to get due to lack of aftermarket support. So if you want 220 hp (a good amount, I'd say) sell yours and get an SL. (On the other hand, if you just want that 20, look into a manifold back exhaust including high flow cats. A k"n filter. An underdrive pulley. Some cam gears and an AFC and somebody to help you tune. That's already closing in on 1000 dollars by the way.)
I know, I know, you don't want to sell it. I've been in a similar position. Don't sell it. But don't go throwing money at it trying to get power that's not there. Just enjoy your car. If you want to mod something, do the suspension. I PROMISE it will be more satisfying than paying thru the nose for incremental increases in power.
