ok i decided to buy a 3KGT

i know VR4 is the twin turbo model...but what about the other two?

what is the SL? is it the same as a VR4 without the twin turbos? can i swap its engine to a VR4? do i have to buy a front clip?

what about the base model?

how can i tell the diffrence between the SL and the base model? (if i dosent have the SL badge)

im sorry if these questions have already been answered but i cant find the info i was looking for.

thank you

Mitsubishi 3000GT cars (JDM GTO label)
VR4 = 6G72 DOHC Twin Turbo All Wheel Drive (1gen 300 HP 2gen 320 HP)
SL = 6G72 DOHC non turbo Front Wheel Drive (1gen 210 HP 2gen 222 HP)
Base Model (pre 1997) = 6G72 DOHC non Turbo Front Wheel Drive (same as SL engine just less goodies in car)(222 HP)
Base Model (1997-newer) = 6G72 SOHC Non Turbo Front Wheel Drive (167 HP)

Dodge Stealth (USDM market)
RT TT = 6G72 DOHC Twin Turbo All Wheel Drive (1gen 300 HP 2gen 320 HP)
RT Luxury = 6G72 DOHC non turbo Front Wheel Drive (1gen 210 HP 2gen 222 HP)
ES = 6G72 DOHC non turbo Front Wheel Drive (1gen 210 HP)
Base Model = 6G72 SOHC Non Turbo Front Wheel Drive (167 HP)

Those are some good numbers to remember and use as a guideline. Hope that helps.

you dont have to change the engine to a VR4 engine...unless you want BIG boost. You can just TT the NA engine for less money. 10:1 compression means higher HP numbers at less boost and IMMEDIATE spool time. I am making in the region of 400 HP @ 8-9 psi. Its a LOT of fun. When I get my car back from KY I will take you for a spin. If you havent bought one yet...who knows...might peak your interest.

The FWD TT has a few advantages to AWD. Its lighter, by roughly 500 lbs. Which is HUGE. The FWD tranny also has shorter gearing so you accelerate from 0-150 faster than the TT does. The FWD isnt capable of the STUPID speeds like the TT AWD is, but who REALLY goes that fast anyways.

What I am saying is, from a roll, you will WALK a TT with low boost on a FWD. I have walked several BPU VR4s as well as Mustangs, Camaros, etc etc etc. Did lose to the Viper. Beat a C5 vette. Lost to the C6 (probably the ZO6 C5 as well, havent raced it yet). OK, thats enough rambling.

That's what I am doing to my 95 NA. Not sure which year engine to grab the TT from though.

Doesnt matter all the turbo equipment is EXACTLY the same. All you have to deal with is the SAFC and the resistor pack and TT ECU. Depending on where you are located for it to be Fed Spec ot CA Spec ECU. Remember you dont need the engine, just the turbo stuff bolted to the engine. And there are a LOT of knick knacks involved too. You will need upper plenum, front motor mount bracket, a lot of banjo bolts, oil filter housing, oil cooler optional but recommended, ummmm....there is a lot to it...let me know if I can help.

Yes and its not hard. Just need to get the piping thats either pre made to go with the IC or just get a custom setup that runs into the FMIC
