Default Wanna Be 2nd Time Owner

Haven't properly introduced myself, but am looking at buying another 3000. Had a '95 that I bought brand new, but leased and turned it in when it expired. I have always loved the look and handling of this car and wanted another ever since I got rid of the first. Since they haven't made the car in a number of years I had a few questions. I'll post up an intro later, but these things have been keeping me up wondering.

--> What would one expect for mileage on this vehicle? Know it depends on how it was driven and maintained, but if those were done properly.

--> How available are parts for repair?

--> What things to look out for when purchasing?

Hi,

I also owned a 3000 before the one I have now. I had a '98 base with extras. Liked it so much, I wanted to get another. I started looking back in January. It took me a while to find the right car at the right price, but I finally did it. I got a '95 with 57,000 miles on it on Ebay. I paid $18,600 for it. It is pretty much what I had been looking for. Low miles, VR-4, very good condition. Most people think it is new. Not bad for a car that's 11 years old.

If you're wanting something that is in good shape with no problems, plan on spending anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000 for a VR-4, or $7,000 to $12,000 for a SL or base. Make sure you run a CarFax report on it.

Thanks for the reply, Gary. My first one was a daily driver, but this one I would like to make a little more special. I don't mind, in fact would love to completely customize the inside of the car. My biggest question though would be about mileage and the motor. I've seen a lot of them with 100+k miles on them and am not sure what to expect from something that high. I'd hate to get a car, fix it up/customize it the way I want and then have it turn to crap for driveability. Is the limit 200k miles, something less, maybe more? And again, I know it depends on how the car was driven and maintained.

thats EXACTLY it, TOTALLY depends on how the car was taken care of. There is a guy on our SoCal forums with a 200K+ mile VR4 that runs amazing. Granted there is 40k on the new engine, but the tranny is still original and the original engine had well over 160k on it before going. ANother guy on our board had over 200k on his original engine before getting rear ended and totalling his car. So if the car is taken care of it can last as long as any other car. If you ask me, low miles is good, but with the age its just as important, if not MORE important, to buy a car thats been taken care of. Usually buyign from someone who KNOWS the car is a good place to start. www.3si.org is the main international forum and there are always some for sale. The REALLY nice ones arent cheap, but you get a LOT of car for the money and usually well taken care of. Hope that helps.

Thanks, Michael. I've been searching and hope to find something here soon. It not being my daily driver will make it easier.
