Default sup guys wanting to get a new car considering 3kgt need some help..

sup guys ive been looking for a new car to get and right now im driving a 97 i30t infiniti auto.

i would like to get some info about the 3000gt

what makes regular 3000gt different from the 3000gt SL
how is the gas mileage
what is the rated horsepower
should i be looking for one under 100k mileage b/c my budget right now is 5 grand.
does it break down easily?
expensive parts?
reliable ? i ask this because i know nissans can run up to 200k mileage
wondering if its RW FW or AWD

ill basically be using the car to commute so the 2 important things are if it will break down on me and the gas mileage

also the first mod i would get is probably a CAI

and last but not least does it make a ricer sound with a catback b/c i never heard them

sorry but im a stranger to mitsubishis =O

Look for 94+, in my opinon...

The only differences between the basic 3000GT and the SL (before 98 anyway) is that the SL has leather interior and a 400 watt premium Infinity sound system. I am sure there are a few other minor differences, but it serves to make the car just a hint more luxurious, does not add power to the engine or any suspension upgrades, to the best of my knowledge. 98+ however the basic 3000GT received a serious power downgrade, topping off at 169.

I get about 20 MpG, but I do a lot of speeding and don't accelerate slowly or that jazz. Basically, if you follow the road rules, keep up the car, and take care of it, I am going to guess probably around 23 MpG, maybe a smidgen more.

91-93 VR4 is 300 HP. 94+ is 320.
91-97 (I think those are the years, might be 96) SL is 222. 98-99 is 218.
91-97 ( ") is 222 HP. 98-99 is 169. (Yes, disappointing, I know)

Going to be difficult to find one worth having for $5,000. My SL had 94,000 miles on it and I got it for $6,500, whilst it had cosmetic damange and some engine trouble.

Every car breaks down easily if it is not well taken care of. The engine is more complicated than a Honda, that's all I can tell you. I'm not all that smart when it comes to these things.

It's an import sports car. Parts do run up a bill, yes.

Again, if you take care of it, it will be reliable. In my opinion, anyway. Mine treats me fairly well.

Basic 3000GT/SL's are all FF/FWD, for all years. The VR4 is AWD, also for all years.

Don't mod it, if your budget is already only $5,000. Save the money for fixing it and taking care of it.

In my opinion the cat back does have a nice sound.

the 169 HP model is in the 1997-1999 SOHC base model. The DOHC is still the 222 HP model. In all fairness though, tha tnumber is also a little overrated. Its closer to 215 in ALL DOHC models from 1991-1999. There were some MINOR changes and the 1994-1999 models put about 10 HP to the ground more htan the 1991-1993 Non turbo models.

The 1994-1996 3000GT was given the DOHC in the base model. The Stealth in the base was given the SOHC engine. ALL Twin Turbo cars came in All Wheel Drive from the factory. All non turbo cars came Front Wheel drive from the factory.

OK now to more specific, if you only have $5k to spend, you will need to get a 1994 Dodge Stealth RT DOHC non turbo. The non turbo is very reliable and still strong enough in that model. Its the same as the SL 3000GT but with the different name plate. That way you can get more car for less $$$. Thats about teh only way you will be able to afford one with less than 120k miles on it.

Yes there are lots of parts to mod with, but there is NO TRUE Cold Air Intake. Just a short ram intake. No worries though, there are other options. gas milesage will be low to mid 20s depending on how you drive it. But thats a good average. OK, that should be a good guide to work with. Happy shopping and let us know what you find.

100% TOTALLY WITHOUT ANY VARIATION depends on who owned it first and how they took care of it. The NA cars will last longer on average, but in ALL cases, 100% based on who has owned it and how they cared for it. But for a VERY VERY basic simple answer...non turbo should be more reliable...all things considered.
