98 Diamante, front driver window, wont go up/down
Hi, Im new here. And this is my first post. So bear with me if I do something wrong. But as the title says, I have a problem with my 1998 Mitsubishi Diamante..
The driver side's window wont go up or down. I checked the fuses and they look fine. All the other windows and everything else works, except for the driver side window.
When I press the window switch, i can hear it trying to roll the window up/down for about 2 seconds, but it doesnt go no where. The window is just stuck in the all the way down position. I cant roll my window up and its just open (to criminals and/or what not).
Now Im thinking its the window's regulator or motor.. or maybe both?
I dont want to buy anything I dont need. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

yep. u got it right, its probably one of those two. esp if u can roll other windows up/down from the same control panel. most likely the motor, sometimes u have to buy both tho. i dont know if this is true for that particular car. but go to an autoparts store and price it out
Well, I took off the door panel, and looked inside. It looks like the cables are messed up. The white part came apart and the cable is not secured so I guess it wont lift the window or drop it because it has too much play. (red arrows)

Yeah, it looks like its gonna be a PITA to take out the motor, and even harder to align it all. Any tips for installation or removal of the window reg/motor?
An OE fit window reg/motor online is $220. At the local auto parts store its $110+ just for the motor. There are a few junk yards but they cant/wont tell me if they have a Diamante in the lot or not. I really dont want to pay $4 to get in, walk all over their big lot of cars in the 100 degree temp, only not to find what Im looking for. Ebay has a used one for $70 but Im a little apprehensive buying used.

I wont buy the $220.00 and you install it by yourself. If there is JP auto glass or any place you know that has CHEAP installation. you already have the parts you might just need a Labor fee. Haggle if you can some mechanics do listen especially if he owns the shop. I will take it there. remember once you replace the motor it will be a PITA to put it back. Trust me been there done that on my Mirage. the alignment is more scarier.
Okay if trust yourself but Please take your time and study it hard. if it takes 2 days to do it go for it as long you will not break any parts or else it will be more PITA.
If you have a over 100,000 mileage on your car. I think it is not worth it. remember it might break again after replacing all those parts because it is no longer factory installed and it's an old car.
if you can just Doctor the damage and don't spend anything I advice you to do that and if the ac still work I think you don't need a window down.
Goodluck

his problem is that the window is stuck down. and yea im not sure if the motor comes separate from the regulator, but the regulator is broke. it might be worth wile to get both so u dont have to do it again soon.
Yeah, thats what I figured, get both. If the window was stuck up, I think I would skip all of this, and use the AC and what not, but its stuck down. I dont think theres a way to make it lock in the fully up position because the cables are messed up.
The car has around 80K miles on it. And I really dont want to spend $220, or even $100, but it must be done. I found one at a local recylcer yard place. $100+tax. 120 day warranty. But you know how that works, it breaks after the warranty date.. I looked at the door/panel/window/reg/motor again, and it looks like a super PITA to remove/install.. and I know aligning anything is a b!t(h. So I guess I'll call a few auto glass shops and see how much they charge. I really dont want to get it wrong..
Thanks everybody for your input. I greatly appreciate it. Hopefully all goes well.. haha.. Thanks again.

No problem man
A mechanic can do that too. if the Auto glass charge you big time and I know they will and they will even tell that they can't do it.
I know high performance mechanic can do that. the problem is, if you have one at your area. Goodluck remember do not spend a lot of money you rather take your family out for dinner or a movie if you will spend $250
Oh almost forgot my friend's car window was not working. so, he purposely broke the window and lied to the car insurance company that his car GOT Break IN and the thief broke the window and motor. he reported his claim and they believed him. they fixed his window
I am not sure if you want to do that but that's another option. LOL

I learned something from you the PITA word

Haha. Well, I wouldnt condone actions like that, but I guess if it works for him, thats cool. However, my insurance deductible is $250, so I'd be a$sed out of a good chunk of green backs anyway, and not to mention the higher insurance premium.
But yeah, I got it fixed, thanks for all the help. I bought the used window regulator/motor for $111 with a 120 day warranty. I also called some glass shops, got some quotes, and went with the cheapest one (he had good reviews on Yahoo local).
Dude came to my place, in his van, on time, and removed/installed the window regulator/motor in no time. Parts and labor totaled $161; not too bad.
Yeah, Im on a few other forums, and thats where I learned all of the internet acronyms..
