Default Slides easily on icy surfaces and in wind

I live in Minnesota and this is the first winter I have driven my '04 Endeavor. I have noticed that under cold conditions, the Endeavor seems to slide around a LOT. Its to the point where even going 40MPH, the Endeavor tends to want to fish tail. The problem is definitely the Endeavor and not the conditions since I have driven my '03 Honda Civic in far worse conditions with no problem at all. I am also the only car on the highway going 40MPH while every other vehicle on the road seems to be speeding past me with no issue. I just had 4 brand new tires put on but this hasn't helped at all. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

it may just be the Endeavor, I found the same thing and wonder if it's the all wheel drive. I've never had a fwd with awd, only 4wd or fwd, but this car tends to lose traction rather quickly.

I ended up taking it in to the dealership and they figured out the problem. The rear knuckles were bad. When the mechanics lifted it up they were able to rotate the wheels an inch in either direction whereas normally the wheels should not move at all.

The mechanics said they had experienced the same problem before during rain storms. They said I had one of the worse cases they had seen. I didn't notice the problem when driving on a dry surface because the friction of the road kept the back wheels facing straight forward. However under slippery conditions, the back wheels would hit the ice and lose friction and were free to rotate slightly and when they hit the next patch of dry road they would cause me to fishtail out of control. Its pretty scary when driving down the interstate.

But I agree, the Endeavor doesn't have the best traction in the world even when 100%, even compared to my Civic.

Thanks for that info, it makes sense to me. Mine is going in for routine service this week, I'll have it checked out while they have it up on the lift.

What dealership did you bring it to? What was the cost of the repair or was yours fixed under warranty?

What if your evo broke into flames while cruising down the interstate and you find a cracked fuel return line. Would they give you a new evo?
