If you have a stock Evo and you purchase just an intake and exhaust you shouldn't have any problems. For around a year my brother and I, on both our Evo's, had an injen intake and full exhaust with a test pipe and had no problems.
It can cause fuel cut, I had fuel cut left and right. and it will make you run more rich which stock these cars run rich *** *****. You can do it but your better off just getting a tune

Cool, thanks for the info, I knew for sure that mods don't mean much without a tune but I wasn't sure that even the simple basic mods like intake and exhaust would really cause your car to run rich. I guess under certaincircumstances you would be ok without a tune with the basic stuff.

Since we are on the subject of running rich and getting tuned, I got a question. When I moved to Colorado, my stock exhaust sounded crappy, like it was sputtering all the time, but the RPM needle did not jump around at all. Now I got a borla 3" catback exhaust and can’t really hear much of the sputtering from the exhaust. Could the reason for the sputtering be due to me moving in a climate with high altitude? Cause I moved from Illinois, which has the climate setting of low altitude. Colorado, on the other hand is a high altitude state which equals to low atmospheric pressure. My CEL came on only once for about 30min. Could it be that my ECU had not adjusted to the new atmospheric setting and my car is running rich or something?

When you change elivation yes it will effect the tune. However the Ecu will relearn what it has to work with. it takes like 100 miles or so for the Ecu to reset itself.

Cool, I got ya. Just seemed to me that it wasn't reseting itself but once I get the rest of my exhaust pieces, and a few more things put on i'll get it tuned. Oh and do u think getting my exhaust manifold ported by Muse would show imporvement?

Actually, it is highly advisable to get a tune after installing a full intake. 10/10 people will tell you to just get the maf adapter and a filter until later tuning. They say the exhaust is fine without a tune. Or if you're tuned and then instal an exhaust you won't need a re-tune.

that is the big part. Because fuel cut will still be there if you are not tuned and add and exhaust. and adding a DP will increase PSI by 1 or 2 so fuel cut is more likly to become and issue unless you have had a tune prior because then fuel cut is most likly removed. I agree about the intake as well. However I did not follow that way with my car. a MAF pipe and cone filter was my first mod untuned for a while too lol

Can we all agree that buying intake, exhaust and down pipe and then get a tune is the best for performance and able to enjoy and drive the car.
