"Ticking" sound?
#14
As everyone else has said, i too thought of lifter tick judging by what you described bit figured i would post to give you another idea. On my galant i heard what sounded like "cards shuffling" when it was warming up and it turned out to be a loose heat shield around my exhaust, try grabbing a pry bar or something of that nature and put pressure on the heatshield with it running, if the noise stops, tighten it or cut it off as i did.

My engine just recently started ticking too. At first I thought it was my a/c compressor but after listening more closely it seems the ticking is coming from the top of the engine so it could be the lifters. The engine has 200k miles on it so I can understand why its ticking. Its real annoying though. I did switch to full synthetic about 3 or so months ago so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Afterall, sythetic is slightly thinner than conventional.

What Octane of fuel are you using? Try running a higher octane of fuel to see if that helps if you aren't running premium already. If that doesn't help maybe do some research on adjusting your valves.
