2001 Galant Timing Belt Replacement Timeframe?
Hello. This is my first post to this forum, and I'm really hoping to get some help here. I have a four-cylinder 2001 Mitsubishi Galant and have enjoyed the experience thus far. It currently has 70,000 miles on it.
I've been hearing a wide array of opinions regarding timing belt replacement. I had my sparkplugs changed recently, and the mechanic said that I needed to have my timing belt replaced very soon. However, I called a reliable place and they said that the computer listed the timeframe for timing belt replacement as 100,000 miles for all 2001 Galants. My maintenance book from Mitsubishi is unclear, as it lists both 60,000 and 100,000 as the time need for replacement.
I'm trying to determine what is the correct manufacturer-recommended timeframe for timing belts, and also would love to hear some opinions on the issue. I would appreciate any feedback that would help me in this decision.
Thanks,
Dan

RE: 2001 Galant Timing Belt Replacement Timeframe?
The reason why you have two different time frame for the belt change is if you have a FED Spec. Galant then you have to change out the belt every 60,000 miles. If you have a Cali Spec Galant then your ok until 100,000 miles. Now to be on a safe side I would still change it every 60,000 miles. Better to be safer then sorry.
