Default 2005 Mitsubishi Galant V4 daytime running lights problem

I would like to disable the daytime running lights. In the user manual, it lists fuse #6 for the engine fuse box to control the day time running lights. I removed the fuse and the daytime running lights still functioned.

So next I put the fuse back in, then I tried ECU trick where you bend the 2nd pin. this disabled the daytime running lights but it also disabled the low setting for the headlights (first notch up from the off position)

So my only options were either off or high.

Is there anything else that I can possibly do to disable the daytime running lights, with out losing the other headlight functions?
