4g64 belt help
So I decided to do my moms timing/balance shaft component kit for her 2003 Galant, 4g64 2.4 SFI. Used a Gates TCK232A, new water pump and new hydraulic tensioner. The first time around, I had to take the whole thing apart again, because when I started it, a p0300 was set once I pushed it to 3500 rpm in the driveway. The valvetrain sounded like it was kissing the pistons, but all the timing marks were lined up perfectly. I assumed that maybe the belt had skipped a tooth, but the marks were lined up perfectly. Then I thought that maybe since it was SFI, that I had put cyl. 1 TDC on the EXHAUST stroke instead of COMPRESSION stroke. I verified the timing marks and spun the crank a few times before starting it..no binding or kissing, and it started right up.
Once I turned the crankshaft another 360 degrees, the light didnt come back on. The valvetrain was still seemingly a tad noisier, but the car was driving great. Belt seemed tight like it was humming on the freeway.
My problem now is, that the car seems to vibrate a lot more than it used to. I have been told that this is causing engine damage. I followed the instructions that the belt kit came with, Gates is pretty trusty. However, I did not use or have the screw type hydraulic cam tensioner tool (the one you thread into the block) OR the spanner-type roller tensioner tool that the guide called for. I used 90 degree needle nose pliers and a small prybar with a plastic time, instead.
The car will no longer go past 65 mph on the freeway. Also, the vibration is strongest when decelerating (in park) from 1500rpm to about 1000rpm. In park, if i rev it to about 2800-3000rpm, the engine will give a very strong "punch" which feels like a strong misfire, but no codes have been set since the job was done.. I am pretty lost, and my mom is gonna have a fit if I dont fix it. Help? Leads?
