I have 97 Galant Automatic 4 Cyl ..130k miles...here is what happens .... Car runs and drives just fine all gears work as they should nice and smooth ...However when i put it in reverse and hold the brake there is a pretty loud whining noise comming from the tranny sounds almost like a water pump going bad or squlling belt ...when i let of the brake and car strs moving noise goes away ...and it only happens in reverse .When i first start it in the morning there is no noise for first minute or to till it worms up a little ...Drive is fine no noises ..... I could only speculate what could it be but im hopeing someone else expirinced this kind of a problem ....
tranny pump going bad ? but why only in reverse ? Something cloged up inside the valve body starving the pump in reverse ? or bad bearing inside the tranny for reverse gear? but it doesnt sound like a bearing noise and it goeas away when the car start moving ... im pretty much lost dont really want to replace the tranny yet ....
Do you guys have any suggestions? Im going to take the pan off tomorrow change the filter and put some fresh fluid in the hopefully i wont find anything on the bottom of the pan ...and maybe put some kind of additive or i might even take the valve body off and clean it...
