Default '99 import - Radio Removal?

Any idea how I can remove the factory radio on my '99 Galant?

It's a jap spec and has wood trim anound the auto (tiptronic) shifter and the centre console, the center console trim extends to surround the (from top to bottom) Climate control controls, radio (half size or smaller unit) empty compartment, sunglass holder (i presume), ash tray with adjacent lighter.

The trim around the shifter comes off easily with a thin bladed screwdriver but reveals no further screws etc... for the trim above which seems to be pretty solid, the ashtray comes out easy but also reveals nothing, I can't figure out how to remove the sunglasses holder!

I'm not having a lot of luck with this and searches on this forum and the web in general haven't been a great deal of help!

Any advise welcome!

Thanks

Ian

The wood trim piece around the radio should pop out its only held in by clips. once out you need to remove the tray under the radio. Underneath the radio in the back theres a small 10mm bolt i think that you need to remove and then there should be 4 bolts on the side of the radio you need to remove

So the big piece of wood trim just pops out?

I've been reluctant to apply much pressure to it, don't want to break anything!

Thanks for the advise, i'll have another look when i get the chance!

Yes it should pop right off. Dont rip it or give it to much force though.

Just tried to pop the trim off with no joy,I wasn't comfortable using too much force as the whole piece of trim seems to be very solid (like it's got bolts somewhere holding it tight!). This is really annoying as I need it out but don't want to break anything! Grrrrrrrrrrr [:@]. Thanks for the tip tho!
