I've read another post regarding radio removal but it doesn't seem to apply to my radio.

I've got a '99 Montero Sport and I've got to get to the Serial Number on the radio so I can get the Code. There are no screws and I've checked around the edge with a knife blade and screwdriver blade looking for a way to get the "faceplate" off or access to see the number.

The ash tray underneath comes out and there are a couple of screws holding the ash tray frame. Is there any access from the ash tray opening?

This is a single CD/Radio system.

Can somebody throw me a some ideas on getting this radio out?

I also have a 99 Sport. I was able to see the serial and model number without removing the radio. Just pull the cup holder about halfway out and use your finger to gently pry the plastic apart a little. Have a flashlight and a pen and paper handy and there you go!

I have to say this worked like a charm!!!

I had no trouble prying open the plastic a little bit and the serial number was right there on the left side of the top of the radio.Just needed a screw driver and a bright flashlight!!
