Default Ac issue help

2005 galant es. With car on if I turn the ac switch on the engine begins to shake very aggressively.. Suspect the compressor because iwent under hood and with ac on the pulley seems to spin then stop and spin and stop or just lock completely ?? Owners manual says if there's an ac problem the ac light will flash and I'm not getting that? Any help highly appreciated thanks

Thanks for the replies. So if its low on freon I guess there'll be a leak that needs to be fixed. Didn't know being low could cause the symptoms I'm having? Ihope thats it tho ha. And if that is the issue is there a chance my compressor could be fine?

My AC seems to be getting less and less cool. I suspect that the Freon is low. Does anyone know where I can find the specs to check out the system fill and/or pressure? Thanks.
