Default oil filter

Hi all
little problem with my galant 91. bought this car about 3000 kms ago and thought id change the oil .i see now that the previous owner has crossthreaded the oil filter .i can get the old filter off ok but the new one wont screw on . how do i get this (think its called anoil cooler bolt) out . do i need a special tool ?

Its an oil filter housing, it should be held in by 4 bolts or so...what engine does it have?

its the basic sohc 8 valve version of the 4g63.

forgot to ask . do all versions of the 4g63 use the same oil filter ? wonder if the parts guy gave me the wrong oilfilter.s

I know there is a difference in filters between 6 bolt ad 7 bolt engines. As long as the seal is in the same spot and threads are the same it should be ok.

hello! in 1991 all mitsubishi vehicles used the same oil filter. get one from the dealer. if the old one comes off easily then u got the wrong filter dude. look at the threads on the housing. do they look damaged?? if not get a factory filter. not any more expensive than one at walmart. 5.50 and that comes with a crush gasket for the drainplug! good luck!! greg...
