Purchasing a 1998 Galant
Hi, folks. First time on the forum.
I'm thinking of buying a 1998 Galant ES from a friend (at a pretty awesome price). Automatic, 100k miles, and a clean title.
What do you all think of this particular model? What things should I be looking for when I inspect the car? Any common mechanical problems I can look forward to?
Thanks in advance.

It's an 11 year old car with 100,000 miles on it which may or may not be a problem. If it's like my 2003 Galant you'll be good for another trouble free 100,000 miles but on the other hand if your friend has a lead foot and never did maintenance on the car you might be lucky to get it home. It all depends on how well it's been treated over the years.

Hi people!
I also want to buy Galant from same year, it is 2.5 L, 163 HP (170 HP)
Only thing that bothers me is AT.
I heard that AT is very expensive when it's broken. I live in Europe and parts for Mitsubishi are expensive
I have a copy of Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi from 1997, it is Proton 418 GLXi and I never had problems.
Usualy cars are with manual transmition i Europe and I'm afraid of that AT.
Anyone can help?!
Sorry for typing on your topic jcwang0706, but I didn't want to open another topic with same question.
Thank you!

Just take it to an independent for evaluation. It's worth paying the small fee to have a third party look it over first without risking the friendship. He/she may not even know if there is something wrong but let someone else look before making a deal.
