Default Transmission bump

1997 Gralant ES. Approaching an intersection, I take my foot off the gas, I prepare to make a turn, and then turn and soon accelerate and rather than a smooth engagement, there is a bump as if the trans bumped into gear. Also, when coming to a stop, it "bumps" in the down shift.

sounds like you have a bad motor mount or 2. have them checked and hopefully that is your problem. Not a very cheap fix though.

Unhappy Question

I think I may be having the same problem.. When i'm accelerating, my galant jerks when shifting gears. After driving for a while this doesn't happen nearly as bad. Any idea?

sounds like both of you have are starting to have transmission problems. that km175 trans in that era of the galant wasnt the best trans mitsu ever built!! only other thing i used to see were the insulators on either side of the trans mount wore out or just deteriorated and fell off. causes a BUMP or BANG on heavy acceleration, or shifting from reverse to forward or vice versa. never improves regardless of temp or driving distance.
