Question Valve Cover Gasket

Before I even start, I wanted to ask how difficult it is to change the valve cover gasket on a '95 2.4L engine? It appears like part of the valve cover goes under the timing belt shroud- so I wanted to verify if this is true or not.

I'm hoping that all I have to do is unfasten the bolts and it slides out from under the shroud- but before I started buying parts and disassembling- I wanted to check first.

Any help anyone can give is appreciated. I've replaced valve cover gaskets and done other work on older vehicles, but have never had to work on my Galant before.

Thanks again.

Do you have to remove the spark plugs or does the cover come off without removing them? I'd like to avoid as much potential for anything getting down into the engine as possible.

Thanks again for the help.

Hey there IrishDude...(I'm half Irish half German btw)...mmsa2 is 'spot on' right. My '97 Galant had maybe 250k miles on it and that's the very first improvement on her that I did..easy in that you remove the valve cover bolts but do make sure you get the gaskets that go around each spark plug wire seat too. Mine was leaky and SO rock hard, that it took (like mmsa2 said) a solid 5 hours to dig the shrunken gasket out...a worthy endeavor though. Once the new one's in, I torqued the nuts just past snug. Another little leak I took care of was a dripping distributor..there's an o-ring rubber gasket around the distributor housing that develps a flat-spot all the way around as it becomes rock-hard and will start leaking. Auto Zone had an o-ring 'variety pack' that did the trick..NAPA and O-Reilly's here didn't have them in stock...unexpectedly.
