CEL Light >.<
2008 Lancer, 11,500 miles.
My CEL came on today...is there a way to check codes without hooking it up to the computer?
I know my Jeep has a key trick that will give me the codes.
First thing I checked was the gas cap, when i barely twisted it, it came right off, so I put it back on but the light was still present...
Does it need to be reset somehow? Or could it be something different?
If I take it to the dealer, it should be covered under warantee right? 100% free?

Yes you can reset the CEL. Mine is ES model with 35,000 miles I never had A check Engine Light On.
you cando it via battery make sure YOU KNOW THE CODES FOR RADIO OR other stuff that needs to be reprogram.
If it just the gas cap go to the dealer they WILL RESET IT FOR YOU FOR FREE.
You must have the 60,000 warranty right? if not get it. without the pain of putting the codes for the radio and other stuff
They might check other problems IF you have one. I guess it is only the gas cap
next time click 3 times.
Did you change something on your engine like short ram intake or other stuff?

go to auto-zone and borrow/rent one of thier scan tools.
follow the instructions to retrieve the code, write down the code , then clear the code with the tool.
if you pop a cel again you will have the code and can begin trouble shooting the problem.
if it does not come back consider yourself lucky.
cel does not come on for "no reason".
