In my opions they suck and arent useful unless you have alot tunnels to go threw and are old but who needs them at 2 pm in summer hot days its just gonna make heat worse. but you do get money off your insurance for having them so it should optional switch .

I don't understand in the commercial on mitsu's motors home page it is clearly driving on a freeway on and off ramp with no running lights. Does this mean that even the marketing people at mitsubishi think that as a sales point day time running lights are not a pro? Or are they just trying to make the two drivers not look dorky with lights on in the middle of the day. I know that the marketing demographic for this car is a younger crowd such as myself and I cant image a younger croud wanting daytime running lights. My mom thinks there cool on her Pontiac tran am2003 but then again she is not the demographic. We need more opinions what do you think about the running lights?

Are people daft here?
its not mitsubishi pushing the issue, its your government. And the use of them is PROVEN to help, so despite what some "invincible know-it-alls" seem to believe. they do nothing but good.
deal.

So "Manybrews" day time running lights do nothing but good you mean to tell me they don't waste energy during the day create more heat and they make a person look really smart not daft for having them on in the middle of the day. I have nothinginsulting to say other than choice is important, if you "Manybrews" want to drive in a neonpink car and wear a helment with head restraint grear that will make you look smart and make you O so safe its a no brainer then you go ahead and do that, but the moment you try to say that your smarter than others and no one should have a choice but to do what you think is right you enter a place that is wrong.

The best saftey option on my 08 lancer is the bluetooth wireless cellphone connection and guess what its optional and I useit becauseI think its easy, convienent and cool but I still have thechoice to turn it off. Am I sure that it will prevent morewreaks then day time running lights if used yes, in fact california requires hands free use ofcell phoneswhen you are driving or you will get a ticket just like you could get a ticket for driving at night with no lights on. Keep in mind there is no state that requires daytime running lights and with the green earth uprising that is going on I doubt they will be able to make millions ofpeoplerun there lights at all times, what a waste. But I must be daft for beleiving in global warming isn't that right "Manybrews".

Id imagine that they are a safety option... but dont see how much they could possibly help... I wonder if theres like hard numbers somewhere that show the improvement made by having them?

are you serious? You actually think running 30 watts worth of light somehow is wasting energy? Especially when it is PROVEN to work?

you really do need to study up a bit.

what kind of silliness is that? A "choice"? You're talking about lights, not a religion. DRLs work, period. Seatbelts and airbags work, period. They've been made into laws because idiot people that "chose" to not use them die in accidents, then raise my insurance rates. I dont like that. So as much as I dont mind when idiots die by their own accord, I dont wish to pay for it.

your arguments are baffling. you waffle back and forth between logic and the complete opposite.
Cell phones should be banned from cars.
DRLs should be on.
seatbelts should be worn.
running headlights doesnt contribute to global warming.
cope.

Manybrews heres a site I want you to visit http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question424.htmit will tell you just how much energy would be wasted and 30watts lol its more like 110watts for two bulbs. Here is a snippet of what is said on the site

"At $1.50 a gallon, that's $600 million per year. Looking at it another way, an extra 8 billion pounds of Carbon Dioxide would be added to the atmosphere by this law."

The site talks about the true calculated energy waste of DRL, and we bolth know gas isn’t anywhere near $1.50 a gallon its much more, so were talking billions of dollarsin waste. Bulb replacement would also increase nearly 75% because most people drive during the day.So Manybrews do you still believe that 8 billion pounds of Carbon Dioxide has no effects on global warming or were you joking in your last post?

As for your claim that they save lives you are wrong again there are mixed results in scientific studies Japan was going to legalize it then they did a non bias study and found that it was more of a danger than a help. Here you go every pro DRL and non-pro DRL scientific study is listedat the following link.
http://ec.europa.eu/transport/roadsa...milnes_roy.pdf The answer is really simple are there crashes at night? You can’t compare seatbelts and airbags which are safety apparatus with DRL the science isn't proven on DRL people get used to lights on all the time in some situations its a distraction. Would you like to trade airbags or seatbelts for DRL didn’t think so, so don’t associate DRL with them.

And yes there should be choice it has nothing to do with religion, everyone shouldn't have to do what you think is right because clearly you are way off on the true numbers and costs. A cell phone Bluetooth hands free car system like I have in my car is no different than talking to a passenger, Its called hands free Bluetooth I don’t even look or touch my phone of course you may think this is magic but no its not.

In my opinion DRL's improve your peripheral detection of an upcoming vehicle. Simple as that, its a lot easier to detect a beam of light coming at you from your right side when your looking forward then nothing at all. This has actually saved me from an accident before.
