Default lancer not starting

basically it goes like this.
I try to start the car and the starter seems to work fine.
The engine gets very little rpm, maybe like 200 or 300 and then after a second or two the engine stops completely.
Check engine light is on, but it has been on for quite a while, and the car has been working fine before.
Spark plugs have been changed recently.
Any idea what's wrong?

ohh, and it's made in the year 1990, 1.5l engine. If there's any other info you need just ask.

most likely it could also be the alternator cause if that is bad your battery would charge it and if the battery is basically **** then it would die after a few second check everything under the hood all the fluids and also the main stuff as in alternator starter battery seliniods timeing belt everything good luck and by the way get a evo or something new I am once I have this one paid off
