Default Shifting in 02 Lancer

I have an 02 Lancer 5 speed. When its cold out and I shift into second gear and only second gear its very rough and makes a grinding noise. When its warm out there seems to be no trouble shifting. I talked with some of my friends who are into cars and there aren't to sure whats wrong with it. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or knows what the deal is.

Thanks,
Keith

I changed the tranny fluid cause that was what I thought at first, but it still makes the same rough shift into second and the grinding noise. I thought it was wierd that the only times I have trouble with it are when its cold out.

Recommendation if you are going to spend a fortune on your tranny.
Go toahigh performance mechanic around your area it is better to go there and installperformance fly wheel etc etc. or go to RRMS if you are in California

good luck.

Sorry dude but that is a waste of cash.

Um, it really depends where you go. You will find that a whole bunch of places will quote you different things. Call around and ask how much its going to be to replace the second gear syncro : )

if it only grinds in 2nd gear, chances are its just the synchro blocker ring thats bad, not the synchro itself. if you just buy that it could save you a little bit of money. are you going to try to fix it yourself or are you going to have a shop do it? because if a shop does it it will probably cost you over a grand

I only have a couple aftermarket parts on the car, Cat-Back Exhaust, Intake, High-Flow Cat, and a Header. I don't plan on doing that much more to it, and putting a performance flywheel or clutch on the car I think would be a waste of money. I plan on calling a couple places tomorrow to check out the prices. I'm going to have in done professionally because I'm at college right now and I don't have a place to work on my car so that kind of sucks. I appreciate everyone's advice...thanks.

I don't mind putting up with the grinding and the sound when it goes into second, and I don't really feel like paying the money to fix it if I don't need to. Would it harm anything if I just let it go or should I get it fixed before it messed anything else up?
