Anyone who is still reading this post after 8 years, have a look at this guide on troubleshooting Mitsubishi Service Engine Soon.

In the early days the P0161 code was caused by the software not interpreting sensor data correctly. Mitsubishi had a recall to flash the PCM to an updated software to eliminate false error code.
