Swapped out my rear cv axle and noise and vibrations went away. Hell of a job with no lift. Putting the part in was smoother then taking it out. Plus it helps to not have the wrong parts because I was looking at the sport not the full sized montero diagrams. 10/10 would not do again but I know I have too. Good luck with yours. I should have made a YouTube video as there is nothing for the US version of the montero for rear cv axle removal/replacement. Maybe on the next one

I'm pretty sure all the sports available in the US have a solid rear axle. Seeing as OP has a gen2 03 Sport, unfortunately this won't be the solution for him.

Another possible solution would be to check the driveshaft for any damage or missing balancing weights. The weights will be welded onto the side of the driveshaft. You may also look into having a shop check the balance by taking it off and putting it on a special machine, similar to a tire balancer, that spins it up and checks for any imbalance.

Do you have a differential seep at all? It may not be a straight up leak but you can look at the diff and tell if one of the seals is going because it will look wet. Could be a differential issue as well.

Default transmission mount

I took a video of the trans mount and my moving it and i can tell there is a good amount of play in the bushing and i’m able to push it up with only 2 fingers. hopefully that mount is my vibration problem. they are only 23.99 lol @MikeE75

well that could be a thing. I had my transmission replace so I’d hope they replaced the bushing lol. Maybe that’s your problem. And for 30 bucks it’s better then yanking out the cv axle If you don’t need too.

Oh boy, when you replace that, you will notice a difference. Mine had some play not as bad as what you've described. Anytime I would lay on the gas from a stop I kinda felt like gears were slipping. Afterwards it was like I was driving a new car.

@Naeos_Valkarian i feel like mine is not terrible but i feel that me being able to move it w my fingers, (even though it takes force), should not be possible.

ok so after a week of just slight vibration at 45-50 I have the knocking sound back. So now it’s either my cv axle loosened up a little and I need to retighten it ooooor it’s my wheel bearing. Smh
