Didn't notice this particular fix posted elsewhere so I thought I would share.

My 06 Montero Limited would not always engage in 4wd when selected. It would engage in 4HL and 4LL but not 4h. After removing and dissembling the 4wd selector it appears that at some point in time coffee or coke had entered the switch. After using some contact cleaner and few q-tips it now works great. Was definitely a cheap easy 15 minute fix.

 

It is good when the seemingly complex problems have a simple solution. Don't you wish every fix was this easy

 

It was definitely a relief. I usually have a talent at making the simple, very complex.
