1990 Montero please advise
Hello everyone. I am interested in possibly purchasing a 1990 montero. It looks good, no rust, and the owner claims that it ran great until the fuel pump got clogged. he removed the fuel tank to replace the pump, and it was rusty, and needs to be replaced. He has given up on getting a new tank, and is offering the car for sale. He is asking 1100.00. The truck has 150000. Is this a common problem with these(rusty tank, clogging the pump)? At this age what else commonly goes wrong with the Montero? I am a Jeep guy, but I have always liked the looks of the Montero. Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks,
Zach

I'm not sure what's common since this is my first Monty, but 6 months after I bought mine, I needed to rebuild the heads. I had some good help, so it wasn't too bad, but of course, Monty was out of commission for a month since I could only work on it on the weekend. Ask to have a mechanic run a diagnostic. It usually runs about $85. Also be sure to ask if it passed its last smog. That can be a good indicator of its condition.
$1,100 sounds great if it's in decent shape and runs well. Good luck.
