Stubborn Upper Mount - 420A Engine Please Advise
Replacing the timing belt due to clatter coming from this area. Don't flame me here - I have done a search and seen several write - ups on this but am stuck.
Motor is a 420A 2.0 Non Turbo '98 RS.
I have the right motor mount off and all drive belts have been removed. The 3 bolts holding the mount
to the block are very long and will not clear the frame rail. Most write ups simply say to remove the mount w/ no further instructions. Am I missing something here?
I have jacked the engine up/down and cannot find the clearance. Do I need to remove the other front lower mount to getmore engine clearance?

RE: Stubborn Upper Mount - 420A Engine Please Advise
For those having this issue, here's the trick for removing the front motor mount for the 420a:
- the top and side bolt an be removed by jacking up the motor. Be carefulwhen jacking the motor because it gets tight towards the firewall because the engine will shiftup and rearward.
- the bottom bolt: If you look on thewheelwellinfront of the motor mount you will notice a dimple above the frame line. It's somewhat hidden by 2hard lines. What you need to do is follow the hardlines to the front of the car (by theoverflow bottle). You'll notice these2 lines are held by 10mm self tapping screws/bolts.By unbolting thescrews/bolts you should be able to stretch apart the hardlines just enough to clear the bolt head.Jack up the motor so that the bolt is aligned to the dimple. Have someonespread the2 hardlines so that you can pull themotor mount bolt out. There's enough clearance toget the bolt all the way out; same procedure for putting it all back.
The next time Ido atimming belt replacement, I'll take some pictures. If you're lost, just email me and I'll walk you through it.
