1999 Montero Sport jerks hard when moving the floor shifter from reverse to drive
I have a 1999 Montero Sport with a lot of problems. Right now the one I am concerned with is that when I move the floor shifter from reverse and then into drive it hesitates for several seconds before finally engaging with a very hard jerk. What could be causing this? Has anyone else had the same problem?

Weighing the investment
Thank you for the response, I checked that first. My estranged husband gave this car to me and took back the one that he was buying for me (won't go there), but this car has a lot of issues and I have made a list of them, trying to decide what is major and what is not major, and whether I should invest my small income in this car or just save for something else more dependable.

Check if your reverse lights are working. A blown fuse can cause the reverse lights to stop working and the same fuse protects the transmission from "SHIFT SHOCK
Infact check all your fuses just in case

Never would have thought to check that
Thank you for your response I'm going to check that today, I never would have thought of that so if I can't find the location of the fuse I know how to Google it since nobody else is around or maybe I can call my brother and he can help me find it thank you
