Default 2001 left sprocket spring action

Hello ladies and gentlemen !

I am new to the form....I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport . She's a great girl but she jumped her timing belt and am replacing it. But when I got to lining up the timing marks the left camshaft sprocket, she has a spring that snaps it to the left or right !! Is there a specific tool that will hold it in place to but the belt on??

Any help would be Great !!!

You need a camshaft holder wrench. It will help you to move the sprocket into the right position and hold it for timing alignment. Mitsubishi FSM specifies a tool that is just for Montero engines, but I found that other makes/brands of tool work just the same. Here is an example:
Amazon Amazon
I have one that has teeth that can be changed to accommodate different sprocket depth. But I've only used the longest/deepest teeth on Montero sprockets. Look around and find the one that you think will give you most flexibility. They are not expensive any more.
