Default 2002 Montero... Blown head gasket symptoms

Fitenfire4life. How did your head gasket swap go? What symptoms were you experiencing? I'm low on coolant and getting hot only when at a standstill for a period of time. I am using some oil possibly into the coolant. Any input would help.

Teardown was extemely easy, I will be getting the heads machined in the next few weeks, then I will reassembly which should be easy, Just take pictures of each of your processes and label everything, I got a divided tray and made labels for each bolt ( head bolts, intake bolts, plenum bolts, and so on).

Lubricate your exhaust manifold and collector bolts with PB Blaster that helped lot...

The reason my head gasket blew was a thermostat stuck closed and rear heater core( passenger side rear) rubber lines where leaking

I do live in Oklahoma City. I'm taking it to Metric Motors, in Edmond, tomorrow. They're going to perform some tests to confirm or debunk my head gasket theory (hopefully debunk). From what I hear, Metric Motors isn't the cheapest but they know what they're doing and are honest. I'll definitely keep you updated on any pricing I get.

WHEW. Turns out it wasn't a head gasket. I had a major clog in my radiator, hence the overheating. In fact, the clog caused so much suction that the radiator hose would collapse under pressure. The brown coolant was a cocktail that the previous owner had put together.

So, they're putting a new radiator in and flushing my block free of any debris. Total damage is looking to be less than $500--Much better than the $1500 to $2000 I was expecting for a blown head gasket.
