It's like trying to diagnose over the phone-

However, I've successfully pulled the oil pan, bearings out of the rod, cleaned the bearing material from the crank journal with crocus cloth (very fine abrasive) since the bearing material is much softer than the crank.

Measure the journal and order a bearing (set) to fit.

The truck was one of my land rovers, but that doesn't matter.
about 20k mi. later I sold it still running great

I've not pulled the pan on either of my sports, but I'm sure it'd be easier than pulling the motor.

well in all honesty, why don't you just go to scrap yards and find a used motor? and it seems very unlikely that the engine will go at such low km unless if it was miss treated.

have you checked the compression of the engine? was their any codes that appeared on the dash?
when was the last time oil was changed?
have you checked the timing chain?

 

The Auto has been dealer serviced and maintained since day 1, No easy way to check compression as you need to remove that plenum etc, timing belt was replaced at 75K, Oil had 2K left till next due, and was up on stick and clean,
Most motors that are avail not only has the avg $3K tag You just do not know what you are getting, with no proof of miles on the engine you get.
As it stands of now, I will be selling as is
