Default 2001 passenger interior leak

Hello everyone. I just noticed a leak today on my montero. Its under the glove box. I am thinking two things, one the evaporators drain is backed up so its draining on the pass side floor, or two its coming from outside. It was raining today so this is why I guess the second one. Does anyone have any ideas or steps to take? I was thinking to take a metal coat hanger and stick in the the drain hose and see if it unclogs. Let me know what you guys think, and also it would be greatly appreciated if anyone can send me the drain diagrams, and where to locate them. Thanks

-Omar

In my Gen I (1990) Montero, I had 2 leaks like this. One was from a poorly installed windshield, and the other was from a failing (therefore leaking) heater core hoses.

I'd check both out in addition to what you've already indicated about the evaporator drain (not sure where that is on the 01's).

Ya, I'm going to check those, but I think first im going to check the drains for the rain. It was really gushing inside. If anyone has those diagrams it would be great. Thanks!!!

Can you describe how / the proceedure you used to check for a leak? Just want to make sure you didn't miss anything.

Mine did the same thing. The a/c drain was blocked and it took me forever to find the drain. It is on top of the drivetrain on the firewall, on the passenger side. I used thin wire and compressed air to get my unclogged and it actually took me twice(cleaning)to get it draining properly.

I ripped apart the interior on the pass side floor, and removed some of the drivers side of the carpeting to peek thru.

mdoc111: would it be on top of the trans in the tunnel, or more near the bell housing? Also did you blow compressed air from the inside of the evap unit or you did it from the end of the drain hose?

-Thanks
