Unhappy 2002 LTD won't read correctly on gas gauge or digital

Lately my 2002 Montero ltd has left me stranded three times. Each time it behaves like it is out of gas. Add gas and she starts right up. According to my mechanics manual, likely cause would be the fuel level sensor, otherwise known as fuel gauge sensor. So I replaced it with a new one. But it still says it has no gas or some gas or starts out with no gas, gas light on and then creeps up to about where it should be. It hasn't stranded me anymore now that I know I just carry gas. I checked the ohm readings on the new sensor and they are right on. I am trying to rig a test light for the special tool that is a 12v 3.4 watt bulb to plug into harness to check power to the unit. Anyone have any ideas what else would cause it to be so dingy? The digital is way off. I think this started when the car was run out of or really low on fuel. Help please!

Default Thank you!

I saw in the manual that the temp gauge and fuel gauge were somehow connected. I don't see where it says anything about this mini computer but after watching the video have no doubt it exists. Now the question is, am I up to removing the cluster panel? I don't look forward to it. Thank you for sharing.

Default 01 Montero Ltd. similar dashboard gauge anamolies

I've been having quite a few problems with my gauges.

In particular, the engine temp dial does exactly what is described in the video where it randomly shoots to high, even when the engine is cool. And recently I have seen the the fuel gauge has not given me an accurate read. The 01 ltd has a led display that shows time temp and miles remaining based on fuel available. I recently filled up and it did not go to the 300 plus number that would reflect a full tank. I think this computer board must be starting to fail.

I have also noticed where I used to be able to place the heat blower in the neutral on position and it would not blow air until the temp had climbed to the set temp. This feature prevented the system from blowing cold air throughout the cabin. Don't know if there is a sensor and relay of some sort not working.

I had mine checked for error codes on Wed. Code P0405 and code P0182 came up. Neither of which have to do with fuel level. My engine coolant gauge is fine. The only thing I see messed up is gas gauge.

after looking at Tidus10 wonderful list of codes both error codes show circuitry problems as well as the test of the fuel level harness not illuminating the bulb nor swinging needles to half way. So where does one start that has all three problems in one?

Is there a way to check the mini computer to see if it is at fault sice I have no engine temp problems?
