Default 2002 montaro 4WD does not work

We had our first snow of the year here in Kansas and the 4WD on our 2002 Montaro would not work. No dash lights would come on.
Stoped by the dealer and talked to the mechanic. He said to shift in and out of 4WD till your arm was sore then do it some more. There is a switch on top of the transfer case , and if you go a long time without using 4WD the elect. contacts stop working. He said he had 2 other Montaro in the shop with the same problem. To change this switch you must drop the trans & transfer to get to it, app. $500.00 So I shifted the transfer alot and it worked. Has any one else had this problem.

VERY VERY common problem cause by the inactivity of the switches inside the transfer case or front differential. Click on my signiture to hyperlink to a Montero Sport forum. From there, you can read my FAQ section and read more about it. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Joel.
We had another snow this week end and the 4WD worked great. I will not go 8 or 9 months without using the 4WD again.
