I just found out while I was trying to replace the antenna mast on my Montero that the plastic part on the old antenna is broken off inside the motor. I cannot find a way to get to the motor, is this a major repair? Do you have to take off the fender to repair the motor? Help!!

 

you will need to remove the motor and disassemble it.

its quite a bit of work on a montero.

When I had to replace the antenna mast I was fortunate that the plastic part wasn't stuck in the motor. I simply used a rag and an adjustable wrench, the rag protects the chrome finish.

tedious, and its the same for 01-06 in the USA, montero (not sport) ltd or xls, of course the xls may not have power.

To get to it requires possible removing the wheel, depending on how skilled and how well you can snake around down there, then removing fender lining.

then a few bolts to loosen the power antenna from the mount..

harder part is removing entire thing (which means the wiring), have to snake it from the interior where its hooked to the stereo panel, which means removing interior panels.

so yea its straight forward but tedious, of course some parts are easier depending on the excessiveness of the job

 

How do I know if the cable is broken inside the motor???
