Default 2003 Montero Sport Limited Question

Does anyone know if there's "extra" cooling on the transmission on the Limited model? I've read they're rated at towing a total of 5000 lbs. I'm looking at getting a small trailer to tow some things, and I don't want to over-do it.

Is the 3.5L engine an "Interference"-type engine?

Anyone know of a good, "small" shop to do the 60K service in the Reno, Nevada area?

That's probably enough questions for now :^) I've enjoyed lurking around...

all the monteros and montero sports (in fact, almost all of mitsus trucks ever) have trans coolers, so you're fine. around 99 they increased the pan size and fluid capacity to help with things like towing, etc.
you shouldnt have a problem. I recommend keeping it out of overdrive if towing a very heavy load.

yes. all mitsu engines are.

aftermarket shops are usually run by complete meatheads. I recommend mitsu techs to work on mitsus.
also, although the timing belt is recommended at 60k (under severe conditions), its quite safe to the normal interval of 100k. Ive seen 190k on the original belt, but do NOT recommend that!

Actually the 3.0L SOHC engines are non-interference engines.

I appreciate your advice and information. Maybe I will consider the local dealer.... it makes sense to go to the ones who work on them for a living.

Thank you-

only the old 2 valvers in the monteros. they were interference in the diamantes. (im talking about pre 94-95).

and the new 4 valvers? DEFINATLY interference, regardless of the car/truck its in.

Yup. Just clarifying so if an 89-91 v6 montero owner reads it the won't think they're screwed because their timing belt broke.

Here's one I've never heard of until recently (probably pretty common though)...
My daily driver is a 95 Golf GL which is a non-interference engine under 25-35mph. Above that the valve movement is so much that it becomes an interference engine. Good thing I was making a turn on city streets when it's timing belt gave out.
